Sports activities and recreation
ŠportUP promotes health and wellbeing among academic and administrative staff of the University of Primorska. With activities organised at different locations in Koper throughout the year, there is something for everyone. Whether it’s a team sport like basketball, volleyball or football, or something more individual like weight lifting, swimming or yoga. Seasonal activities such as running, salsa and climbing are also available, and all activities are free of charge for UP members.

Staff recreation is free of charge. All you need is valid UP ID.
The University of Primorska has opened a new Fitness Studio in the city centre of Koper, conveniently located at the UP University gym (Izolska vrata 2, Koper) with a separate side entrance.
This facility is open to both students and staff, providing free access to a small but modern fitness gym, with entry controlled by UP e-cards. Furthermore, guided exercises for smaller groups will also be organised as part of the Sport UP activities.
To ensure the efficient use of the fitness, a pilot phase will begin in the coming months and extend through summer 2023. The goal is to develop a fully functioning system by the end of September 2023.
The fitness gym equipment includes:
- 2x BikeErg by Concept2
- 2x RowErg by Concept2
- 2x power rack
- 2x wall-mounted adjustable pulley system
- 4x Swedish ladder
- 1x monkeybars
- An assortment of free weights (dumbbells, kettlebells, Olympic bars and weights)

Koper has one of the best recreational infrastructures in Slovenia. Main facilities include:
OLD ROAD BETWEEN KOPER AND IZOLA – a 3 km stretch of road by the sea closed for traffic (perfect for running, cycling, rollerblading, walking, swimming, etc.) – free;
BEACHES in all coastal municipalities (swimming, kiting, diving, SUPing, kayaking, etc.) – free;
SPORT GROUND BONIFIKA (52.411 sq m of facilities include football stadium, 3 additional football courts, 13 tennis courts, athletic stadium, 2 futsal courts, 2 volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts, trim trail and outdoor fitness) – majority of facilities are free, but not all – LINK

The three walkways lead you around towns of Lucija, Piran, Portorož, Seča, Strunjan and their surroundings. They are designed as circular paths and are clearly labelled all the way so you can’t get lost. They are also not difficult. The official starting point for all the walkways is Portorož, but since they are round trips you can start on any point of the walk you want.
