Official procedures on arrival
There are some procedures you have or want to do when you move to Slovenia.
You have to register with the police (if you are a visa holder and live in a private flat) or register your address with the administrative unit (if you have moved for a longer period of time and can provide the owner’s consent).
If you are residing in organised accommodation (a dormitory, a hostel or similar), you will be registered by the owner/manager, so you do not have to do it.
The government provides subsidised student meals, so we recommend you to register for that relatively quickly.
For specific purposes, you might also need to arrange a tax number and/or a bank account.
VISA HOLDERS: REGISTERING WITH THE POLICE
Who needs it?
Anyone who has a visa and stays in a private flat immediately after arrival.
Those staying in organised accommodation (e.g. hostels, dorms, hotels, etc.) will be registered by the accommodation provider. If you stay in a private flat for longer and you have a contract, you should register with the administrative unit (not the police!).
