Why University of Primorska

The University of Primorska (UP) is a medium-sized, internationally engaged university with 5,744 students, of which 1,300 (or 22.63%) come from 47 foreign countries. It has 730 staff members and 480 researchers and higher education professors, of which 59 (or 12.3%) come from abroad.

The UP is part of European Allicance Transform4Europe, a European university bringing additional value to students and staff of 10 universities from all over Europe and one of the 38 members of the European Network of Innovative Higher Education Institutions (ENIHEI), an initiative proposed by Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth to exchange knowledge, ideas and experience on how higher education can promote an innovation culture, and enable creativity, entrepreneurship and talent.

In partnership with the Škocjan Caves Regional Park, the UP launched the UNESCO Chair of Interpretation and Education for Enhancing Integrated Heritage Approaches and in cooperation with the European Commission established the first European New European Bauhaus Academy to support the green transformation of the European construction sector.

The UP carries out 79 study programmes in all three cycles, 19 of which are also held in the English language, while mobile students can participate at one of more than 250 courses taught in English.

In addition, the UP organises from 5 to 10 international summer schools on various topics every year as well as over 10 international scientific conferences, including at least a major conference, as it has done for several consecutive years, with more than 1,000 participants and under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia.

Being a student on the Slovenian coast

Being a student in Slovenia brings you numerous benefits, including discounts on public transport and entrance fees to events or other activities. A special coupon system, which can be used in restaurants across the country, significantly reduces the costs of living, while the possibility to work through a programme called ‘Student Work’, will facilitate you the access to temporary and part-time work in many different areas.

Study in Slovenia is even more convenient for students from European Union Member States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, and the Republics of Macedonia and Serbia, since there is no due tuition fees, while part-time and PhD students shall pay the University tuition, which is very low compared to other university fees around the world.

On the Slovenian coast, students can benefit from many sports and cultural activities, parties and trips which are organized by several student organizations. These also organize welcome or orientation weeks to help international students get to know each other and settle in. The University has a strong tutoring system, whereby students at most of the faculties assist other students in solving everyday issues. In addition, everyone can choose to stay in a student dormitory or in a private apartment, student dorms being the cheaper option.
