Why the University of Primorska
The University of Primorska (UP) is a medium-sized, internationally engaged university with 5,744 students, of which 1,296 (or 22.56%) come from 47 foreign countries. It has 782 staff members and 516 researchers and higher education teachers, of which 72 (or 14.09%) come from abroad.Â
UP is part of Transform4Europe, a European university alliance that brings additional value to students and staff of 10 universities from all over Europe. UP is also one of the 38Â members of the European Network of Innovative Higher Education Institutions (ENIHEI), an initiative proposed by Mariya Gabriel, former European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. It is a forum to exchange knowledge, ideas and experience on how higher education can promote an innovation culture, and enable creativity, entrepreneurship and talent.
In partnership with the Škocjan Caves Regional Park, UP launched the UNESCO Chair of Interpretation and Education for Enhancing Integrated Heritage Approaches. In cooperation with the European Commission, it established the first New European Bauhaus Academy to support the green transformation of the European construction sector.
UP carries out 81 study programmes in all three cycles, 18 of which are also held in the English language. Mobile students can participate in one of more than 250 courses taught in English.Â
In addition, UP organises from 5 to 10Â international summer schools on various topics every year as well as over 10Â international scientific conferences, including at least a major conference, as it has done for several consecutive years, with more than 1,000Â participants and under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia.
Being a student in Slovenia brings you numerous benefits, including discounts on public transport and entrance fees to events or other activities. A special coupon system, which can be used in restaurants across the country, significantly reduces the costs of living. Through a programme called ‘student work’ you will be able to access temporary and part-time work in many different areas.
Study in Slovenia is even more convenient for students from European Union Member States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Serbia and North Macedonia, since there are no tuition fees. The tuition for part-time and PhD students is extremely affordable
On the Slovenian coast, students can benefit from many sports and cultural activities, parties and trips that are organised by several student organisations. These also organise welcome or orientation weeks to help international students get to know each other and settle in. The University has a strong tutoring system, whereby students at most of the faculties assist other students in solving everyday issues. In addition, everyone can choose to stay in a student dormitory or in a private apartment, student dorms being the cheaper option.
