EU & EEA CITIZENS

EU and EEA citizens need to obtain a residence registration certificate if you are staying here for more than three months.

    Who needs it?

    EU & EEA citizens.

    How can you get it?

    File an application at the Administrative Unit where you will live and supply the following documents:

    • Application form: Slovene, Italian,
    • Signature form: signature form, example,
    • Biometric color photograph (see requirements here),
    • Copy of passport (page with biographic data)/ID,
    • Confirmation of address (e.g. rent contract, owner’s statement of proof of ownership),
    • Proof of purpose of stay, e.g.: 
      • Certificate of enrolment, 
      • Proof of admission to studies, vocational training or other form of education issued by an educational institution, 
    • Proof of sufficient means of subsistence – statement provided by the student is enough (Slovene/English, Italian)
    • Proof of health insurance (European Health Insurance Card – the blue card),
    • Optional: A signed statement of the length of the intended stay in Slovenia – fill in this form.

    How soon should you arrange it?

    Within three months after arriving to Slovenia.

    A few months.

    Payment via bank transfer or in person at the Administrative Unit:

    • Fee for the issue of a certificate of registration: EUR 9.10 – at submission
    • Application fee: EUR 4.50 – at submission
    • Printing of the card: EUR 12.32 – when collecting the card

    The FIRST permit is free for students who are coming to a mobility via an EU programme (e.g. Erasmus+) or an interuniversity agreement. However, you still have to pay for the card (EUR 12.00). Based on a bilateral agreement, the permit is also free for students from Turkey.

    Monday: 8 am–12 noon and 1 pm–3 pm
    Tuesday: 8 am–12 noon and 1 pm–3 pm
    Wednesday: 8 am–12 noon and 1 pm–6 pm
    Friday: 8 am–1 pm

    Important information to know

    About visiting the Administrative Unit:

    • They might speak only Slovene, so visit with a tutor or a buddy,
    • Leave your telephone number and a telephone number of the person speaking Slovene (tutor, buddy) and email address,
    • Check your email (including spam) regularly,
    • Pick up the certificate when they call you,
    • Register your address when you pick up the permit,
    • The residence registration certificate is valid for five years or less, if you indicate that at the time of the application submission. If you want to extend the permit, you should do that in the last month of the permit validity.
